Sga Tutoring Curriculum

designed so math tutors can excel

Understanding the best way to help secondary school students in math can be challenging. To date, a free intensive tutoring curriculum has not been available geared explicitly to supporting middle and high school students in math.

So we changed that. We’ve tested the Saga Curriculum working with school districts around the country to empower tutors or anyone looking to help students achieve their best.

learn 2.5 years of math in one year

Working with the Saga Curriculum in an intensive tutoring setting can allow students to learn 2.5 years’ worth of math in one academic year, reducing math failures by as much as 63% and reducing non-tutored subject failures by as much as 26%. Additionally, our research has shown that the opportunity gap, the observed and persistent disparity in educational performance by socioeconomic status, is closed by nearly 50%.

This program is geared towards tutors, and with that in mind, it helps tutors work through student misconceptions, shares sample questions to gauge and deepen student understanding, and helps communicate how there are multiple ways to solve problems. Since it’s geared for one-on-one or small groups, the courses and exercises don’t cover educator-related topics like classroom management.

There’s no specific sequence or order to follow. Each lesson starts with an overview so the tutor can have a quick refresh of the topic, and is built to support and supplement what students are already learning in the classroom.

And we’re constantly making revisions to ensure we’re meeting the needs of districts across the United States. We welcome feedback and would love to know if you’d like to see a particular problem type included or a different way for a lesson to be structured in future iterations to help improve math and test scores for high school students across the U.S.
